Toyota Camry Ignition Coil Replacement Cost (2002-2026)
Quick Answer
4-cyl (all front access)
$325-$453
per coil at independent shop
V6 rear bank (intake removal)
$380-$520
per rear coil, higher labour
Critical: V6 Rear Bank Requires Intake Removal
The Camry V6 (2GR-FE) has three coils on the front bank (cylinders 1-2-3, accessible) and three on the rear bank (cylinders 4-5-6, buried behind the upper intake manifold). Replacing a rear-bank coil requires removing the upper intake, adding 0.5-1.0 hr labour.
If any rear-bank coil fails, strongly consider replacing all three rear coils at once. The intake is already off. Labour overlap saves $50-$120 compared to doing them separately.
4-cyl full set
$400-$650
V6 full set (all 6 coils)
$720-$1,040

2002-2006 Camry (XV30): The Older Ignition Layout
The 2002-2006 Camry is the most-searched older generation, and its ignition setup is not the same across engines. Confirm which one you have before buying parts, because the V6 coil count changed mid-generation.
2.4L 4-cyl (2AZ-FE)
Four coil-on-plug units on top of the engine, fully front-accessible with a 10mm socket. The same easy job as the newer 4-cyl Camry. The 2AZ-FE is well known for coils failing around 100,000 miles.
3.0L V6 (1MZ-FE, 2002-03)
Only three coils. The front three plugs fire off coil-on-plug units; the rear three fire through plug wires (waste-spark). A full ignition refresh here is 3 coils plus a set of wires, not 6 coils.
3.3L V6 (3MZ-FE, 2004-06)
Six individual coil-on-plug coils, no plug wires. The rear bank sits behind the upper intake, so a rear-coil job needs the intake off, the same as the later V6.
A single 4-cyl coil at an independent shop runs about the same as the newer Camry. RepairPal lists the 2003 Camry ignition coil job at $419-$601 including a dealer-grade part.
Which Cylinder Fails First?
V6 rear bank (cylinders 4-5-6)
Cylinders 4 and 6 are closest to the exhaust manifold heat source and fail first. Cylinder 4 is the most commonly reported first failure on 2GR-FE engines.
4-cyl front cylinders
Cylinders 1 and 2 are reported slightly more often than 3 and 4 on 2AR-FE engines. All four are equally accessible.

DIY Feasibility
4-cyl: Easy (10 min per coil)
All four coils are on the top of the engine, fully accessible with a 10mm socket. Identical to Civic DIY. Save $60-$150 in labour.
V6 rear bank: Moderate (1.5-2 hr)
Upper intake manifold removal required. Risk of breaking intake gaskets. Recommended only if you have disassembled an intake before. Save $130-$250 if done correctly.
Torque: 8-10 ft-lb on 2AR-FE hold-down bolts. 2GR-FE: 9 ft-lb. Always confirm in factory service manual.
